I hold BA and MFA degrees in Sculpture from Antioch College and the University of Oregon. Over time, I acquired the skills that I use making kinetic sculpture and unique musical instruments. I trained as a cabinetmaker making custom hardwood furniture. I learned blacksmithing and reconstructed timber frame barns. For years my day job was as a steel fabricator working on structural steel, cranes, machinery and pressure vessels. I went back to school and eventually received a degree in mechanical engineering. With that degree, I spent the next twenty years on design and development of color printers at Tektronix and Xerox. Early retirement made it possible form me to work full time on sculpture and instrument building. My home and studio are in Portland Oregon.
