"Winter has never been my season. I’ve tried so hard to like it, or even just tolerate it—but by about the first week of January, I’m already over it and dreaming of warmer weather. This winter has been especially cold and dreary, and the news cycle has amplified the dreariness. Fortunately, as a painter, I can use art as my refuge. More than I think I ever have with any other series, I poured myself into the creation of these pieces."

"I kept meditating on the beauty of the natural world and how comforting it is to know that, despite all the chaos and messiness surrounding humanity, nature continues to quietly and persistently forge ahead. Birds and butterflies automatically know how and when to migrate. Flowers and trees automatically know how and when to bloom, and this amazing planet continues to renew itself. This body of work is a celebration of the natural world and how, without any help from humans, nature continues to carry on harmoniously while it surprises and dazzles us with its infinite beauty."
